APRIL 20

STRIPER- Excellent striper fishing around Cedar Key. Some of the fish weigh up to 30 pounds. Hopkins spoons, 1/3 ounce, are also taking some stripers. Lots of 12 pound stripers are hitting Cordell Red Fins and Rebel Spoonbill plugs at night at the lower end of the lake.

BASS- anglers are catching good numbers of bass, to seven pounds. Bass are hitting spinnerbaits and plastic worms on rocky points and boat docks. Fish the dropoffs and ledges adjacent to boat docks, as the bigger fish are about 20 feet dee

 

APRIL 13

 BASS- are beginning to go on the beds. Some are being caught in the backs of coves and on shallow banks, using chameleon colored plastic worms. The better bass fishing is in the Blackwater River arm of the lake.

STRIPERS- are biting well, with a 20+ pound fish being taken on live shad this past week.

CRAPPIE-fishing is also excellent.

 

APRIL 6

STRIPERS Good striper action, to 25 pounds, on Cordell Ripplin’ Redfins and live shad, in the lower end of the lake.

LARGEMOUTH BASS    are catching largemouth and smallmouth bass, and crappie. Main lake points are the preferred location for the bass.

CRAPPIE  located around submerged brush and bridge pilings.

 

MARCH 30

LARGEMOUTH BASS fishing is excellent. Small jigs and pumpkin, blue-flash or smoke colored, four inch plastic worms are the better choice for lures.

STRIPERS 14-20 pounds, are being taken between the islands at the lower end of the lake in shallow water. Stripers are also active on the points in Craddock and Witcher Creeks. Fish bucktails in 2-8 feet of water and live shad at 15 feet.

Crappie fishing is excellent, with lots of big fish.

MARCH 23

LARGEMOUTH BASS are turned on. The bass may be caught off main channel points on plastic worms or jig ‘n pig baits. The fish are not orienting to cover. Bass are also being caught on bucktails by striper anglers. Spinnerbaits are taking bass on gravel banks in the creeks. Bass are also bedding in some of the shallow areas.

CRAPPIE are in brushpiles back up the creeks, in 4-6 feet of water. Walleyes are also hitting in the creeks. Small crankbaits in white or yellow are best.

STRIPERS are being caught in shallow water, with the fish running 12-22 pounds. Most active areas for stripers are from markers 31-47 on the Roanoke River and at Magnum Point and the 4-H Center on the Blackwater River. Stripers are also active on the points in Craddock and Witcher Creeks. Fish bucktails in 2-8 feet of water and live shad at 15 feet.
